Day Six: God Moves Mountains
James 1:2-4
"Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything."
I have learned something very important in my walk with the Lord and I am very ready to share it with you. Here it is...
God will put trials in your life for a reason and we will only understand the reason behind it when He is ready for us to.
I will be honest with you. When I learned that lesson I was none too happy. If God was going to make a radical move in my life, then I want to know why it is all happening much sooner rather than a second later. I didn't want to be left standing in the dark wondering why everything seemed to be crashing down around me. Well, as it is said, it's not on our timing that things happen or we understand, it's on God's timing. I have had to swallow this lesson on more than a handful of occasions.
I can think back now and remember not understanding why I was being abused as a child. Not understanding my parents' divorce. Not understanding why a certain break up happened. Not understanding why I lost my job. Not understanding why I was being told by God to sit still as I watched Him clear my plate of everything I thought He had wanted me to do.
Then one of my favorite verses came into my head. Psalm 46:10
"Be still, and know that I am God."
What does it mean to be still? What does it mean to know that He is God? Shouldn't we already know that? Well let's break it down.
Still is defined as remaining in place or at rest; motionless; stationary. It means to basically not move. I also think that has to do with your mind though. To not only stop rushing physically, but to stop rushing in your head and just be still in your mind. Let your mind, body and soul be in silence all at the same time.
Now to know that He is God. I will interpret that the only way I can think of. To know that He is God is to literally know that He is God and we must put our full trust in him. I use this verse often, but it holds so true to most everything that has happen in my life and I find myself repeating it more than any other verse. I've actually already mentioned it previously. It's Proverbs 3:5-6.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight."
We are not always meant to understand right away. We, honestly, may never understand. I know that I feel so amazingly blessed when God reveals something to me and I have a better understanding. I praise God for that. It's the simple fact that we have to trust Him. Now I say the "simple" fact, but I do not use that lightly. We all know that we have to trust Him. We can repeat that verse all day and all night (I know I do). But do you really live and believe that verse? I will be the first to tell you that I was one of the many saying it, but not really living it until a few weeks ago. God smacked that verse over me so quick that it was the most amazing feeling in the world. To actually be able to live my favorite verse. WOW! But before that, well, I was a wreck when it came to that verse.
I was scared. I was downright terrified. I had given everything to the Lord. My home, my money, my relationship and anything I could think of, but I was still so scared about what would happen in my life. I might have said I had given it all over, but then I realized I had forgotten to give one thing over to the Lord. I had not given up my need to control to Him. I was still wanting to have some control. We have no control ladies and gentleman. None. Absolutely none. God knows what will happen in the future. He knows how we will react and how things will pan out. So, if we know all of that, why do we have such a hard time giving it over to Him? We our people of control. We thrive off of it. We feel the need to have all of our ducks in a row, then give them over to God. But what is so awesome is God's wants our mess. God wants us to be still and give Him our mess and let Him handle it. He is glad to take it from us. How awesome is that? I mean, if that doesn't get you excited then what will for crying our loud? God loves us regardless of our mess. He knows the depths of my heart, but He still loves me the same no matter what is there.
God can move mountains when you are still. When you stop and ask God to reveal to you what needs to be revealed and what you need to see, you will be brought to your knees at what He shows you. I know I have been on more than one occasion. God can reveal things to you that you had no idea that that was even something going on inside you. HE KNOWS YOU!! With me, God revealed healing that needed to be done in my heart that I had hidden away. God revealed that I needed to grow stronger in Him before I could grow with anyone else. God revealed that I had pride in me. I had to be still though to hear all of that. I had to be willing to hear God speak to me and willing to acknowledge those things. God knew when that time for me was and I am so thankful and blessed I was able to hear it.
My challenge for you today is, are you willing to hear and listen to God? Are you willing to be still and hear what our Creator has to say, good or bad? During your prayer or quiet time, stop talking at the end and just be still with the Lord and see what he reveals to you. Ask Him to reveal what needs to be revealed and listen. I pray He opens your heart to the amazing wonders and plans He has for you.
In Him and For His Glory!
