Am I Failing God?

"We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualifications comes from God."
2 Corinthians 3:4-5

Am I failing God? Now that is a question for thought. Is that even something that is possible? In our minds the answer to that question at times can be yes. We make decisions everyday and some of those decisions make us feel as though we have failed Him or let Him down, our Abba Father. Some of those decisions make us feel as though we chose the wrong fork in the road and we are traveling down the path more frequently traveled instead of the one less traveled. Are we always confident in our decisions? No, but at times we lose confidence in the plans God has for us as well.

When things are not going the way we thought or hope they would we stand in the mess of confusion, pain, anxiousness, and feeling unsettled with where you are in your life. What makes that mess more baffling is the fact that we were most likely just fine the day before. We were content in His plan for our lives and living it out daily to the best of our ability. Why all of the sudden does this unrest invade and make our lives feel as though we need to be doing something greater. That we wish we were living another persons life instead of our own. The answer is simple, we rely on the world for the confidence in our expectations and in our plans instead of looking to God.

As we deal with this conundrum we can easily have the internal battle of what God's plan is and what it is not. Through the mess we have to remember or come to the realization that God's plan is not my expectation of how I think my life "should be". We all have to admit that we sometimes think God is a "wishing well" and what we ask Him should happen because we know He can make it happen if He chose to. We have our three wishes and He is supposed to grant us our desires. We have to come to the realization that God's plan is a journey that we are on with Him, living for Him daily, and aligning our expectations and desires with His and what He wants for our lives.

To be honest, this mindset has been a struggle for me for, well, since always. I have moments where I think I know better than God. Where I want to be living someone else's life. What I am forgetting, and what I think we all forget at times, is that once we have affirmed who we are in Christ, we can start to reflect on who our true identity is in Him. I think our problem begins when we find our identity in the world or in people and we try to please them instead of doing what we need to do or can do to please God. In Galatians 1:10 Paul says, "For am I trying to win the favor of people, or God? Or am I striving to please people?" Who are we trying to please? Who else are we wanting to be? Are we placing our identity in trying to be someone else instead of who God wants us to be? God created us perfectly, in His image. David praises God for this in Psalm 139:13-14 when he says, "For it was You who created my inward parts; You knit me together in my mother's womb. I will praise You because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful, and I know this very well." In Genesis we see that "...God created man in Him image, He created him in the image of God; He created them male and female."

When we go through moments of uncertainly and fighting a lack of direction we tend to ask ourselves, "Where is God in all this? Why has He not intervened?" Well, the answer to that is He is simply everywhere and because we have not asked. The question we should be asking is, "Why can't I see God in this?" It's a whole new perspective in the way we have to think about our lives and the role we God is playing. Is He playing a staring role where He is calling the shots, or is He more in a supporting role where we only come to Him to back us up when we need Him?

It says in Ephesians 3:12,"In Him and through faith in Him we may approach God with freedom and confidence." Do you go to Him when your confidence in His plan begins to waiver? Or do you approach the world and attempt to do this life on your own? Do you turn to Him when you think you are messing up His plan for your life and do you truly believe you can mess it all up? This is just as much for you as it is for me today. Once we fully realize that we have the beautiful ability to go to Him freely and without judgement will be the day the true freedom and trust in Him and His plan will come. I am praying for you my sisters.

In Him and For His Glory,

Cassie
