Who Am I To Judge

“Do not judge others, and you will not be judged.   For you will be treated as you treat others. The standard you use in judging is the standard by which you will be judged.  “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye [ c ]  when you have a log in your own? H ow can you think of saying to your friend, 'Let me help you get rid of that speck in your eye,’ when you can’t see past the log in your own eye?  Hypocrite! First get rid of the log in your own eye; then you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye." Matthew 7:1-5 To be honest, I debated using the Message version of Matthew 7. I settled on the New Living Translation version, but my goodness the Message version just convicts you. The Message version of Matthew 7:1-5 reads:  " Don’t pick on people, jump on their failures, criticize their faults— unless, of course, you want the same treatment. That critical spirit has a way of boomeranging. It’s easy to see a smudge on yo...

Am I Failing God?

"We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualifications comes from God."  2 Corinthians 3:4-5 Am I failing God?  Now that is a question for thought. Is that even something that is possible? In our minds the answer to that question at times can be yes. We make decisions everyday and some of those decisions make us feel as though we have failed Him or let Him down, our Abba Father. Some of those decisions make us feel as though we chose the wrong fork in the road and we are traveling down the path more frequently traveled instead of the one less traveled. Are we always confident in our decisions? No, but at times we lose confidence in the plans God has for us as well.  When things are not going the way we thought or hope they would we stand in the mess of confusion, pain, anxiousness, and feeling unsettled with where you are in your life. What makes tha...

Uneasy and Unsure, But...

"Now if any of you lacks wisdom, he should ask God, who gives to all generously and without criticizing, and it will be given to hm." James 1:5 Uneasy and unsure. Those words go together like peanut butter and jelly for most people. When you're uneasy about something, you become unsure about everything else. Things that seemed to make sense or make you happy are now being called into question. The way you see your life, the world, changes. I can tell you that when this feeling happens to me, it literally takes over my body. During that time I am always on the verge of a breakdown, and I mean literal tears. I have to step back and take a deep breath to keep the tears from flowing down my cheeks, but trust me, my eyes are full. It's an unexpressable feeling of anxiety. I have never been able to put the anxiousness I have felt in the pit of my stomach into words. It's like I want to jump out of my skin. Like I should be doing something else with my life. Like I am ...

Works in the Waiting

"For since the world began, no ear has heard and no eye has seen a God like you, who works for those that wait for him." Isaiah 64:4 To be honest, I hate waiting. I am an instant gratification kind of girl. I am a loyal member of Amazon Prime, and to be honest, it's mainly just for the free 2-day shipping and on top of that I won't buy anything unless it's Prime ready. I would rather go out and shop in a brick and mortar shop than online. I think you get the idea.  Even though I am not a big fan of waiting and I am pretty sure many are not either, how ironic is it then the word wait is mentioned over 100 times in the Bible? Waiting could even be said to be a theme of the Bible. We wait on the answer to prayers, we wait to see what God will do, we are waiting on the second coming of Jesus, we learn so much about waiting from His word and what it means to wait on Him. So, my question is, why is waiting so hard even though we know the good that God can work through...

Consuming Fire

"Be careful not to forget the covenant of the Lord your God that He made with you; do not make for yourselves an idol in the form of anything the Lord your God has forbidden. For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God." Deuteronomy 4:23-24 Our God is a jealous God. He wants you to Himself and does not want to share your mind, body, heart, or soul with anything or anyone. So why do we let the things of this world consume us instead of Him? Why do we let the negative or positive things take residence in our minds and hearts instead of God? It is easier said than done to not let the world consume us, to not let it take over our days and our thoughts When we let it, we loose touch with the One we should always be in touch with. We loose the rest we can find in Him and we loose the comfort we have in who He is to us. Why do we let this happen? Well, we are fallen humans that live in a fallen world, with objects that tend to look and feel for appeasing than God does...

Consider it Pure Joy

"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that they testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." James 1:2-4 In the movie War Room, Priscilla Shirer's character Elizabeth has a moment where she has come to the end of her rope. She can feel the enemies presence surrounding her life, demands that he leave and boldly proclaims that Jesus Christ is Lord over her house, her family, and her life. At the end of this moment she says an extremely powerful line that had an impact on me as I sat there in the theater. She says, "I am so sick of you stealing my joy,  but that's changing, too.  My joy doesn't come from my friends.  It doesn't come from my job.  It doesn't even come from my husband.  My joy is found in Jesus.  And just in case you forgot,  he has already defeated you.  So go back to Hell ...

Friendship

"Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or rude. It does not demand it's own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no records of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance." - 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 This verse is well known to many people, Christian and non-Christian alike. Most of us have either heard this verse in a wedding, or if you're are married, used it as a part of your vows to each other. This verse is traditionally used as a blueprint for a strong marriage/relationship founded on Christ and the salvation we have through Him, but as I write this, I also see this as a foundation for a strong, Christ-centered friendship. What does it mean to be a friend in this fallen world? To be a friend in a fallen world is to know we are fallen too, but we have a Savior who is alive and dwells in our hearts...
